Top Valentine’s Day Crafts for Young Kids

The Christmas season may be over but it doesn’t mean that winter will be a dull one! Valentine’s Day is the perfect holiday for kids to enjoy making cute, colorful crafts. I’ve put together some of my favourite Valentine’s Day crafts for children. You’ll find a lot of options here. I’m certain you’ll be able to find something that everyone in your family will love this Valentine’s Day.

1. Cardboard heart string art (Age 4 and older)

It’s a low-prep craft that even younger children can do! You will need a piece cardboard cut into a heart shape, and then evenly spaced notches all around. All you need to do is cut out a heart shape from cardboard and then evenly spaced notches around the outside. After the paint has dried, your children can use colorful thin string to make designs. Children younger than 10 may wrap the string in a random pattern, while those older can create patterns. Learn more about this craft at Happy Hooligan.

2. Salt Dough Hearts for Ages 3 and Up

This is a simple craft that can be done by a child (under adult supervision). Three basic ingredients are needed: flour, salt and water. That’s it! Mix your ingredients and roll your dough out. Cut it with a cookie cutter. You can use mod podge, glitter, or colorful paints to decorate the baked hearts. This is a great craft for kids who want to be involved. The complete instructions can be found at Just Being Mommy.

3. Heart shaped Birdfeeder Ages 3 and older

Who said Valentine’s Day crafts were only for decoration purposes? It’s easy to make this heart-shaped feeder, and kids will love sharing Valentine’s Day love with their backyard feathered friends. You will need gelatin (Knox), bird seed, water, string or wire to hang it, and a heart-shaped cookie cutter or mold. BargainHoot originally designed it for a wedding favor. However, I think that this would make a wonderful Valentine’s Day craft.
