There’s nothing more daunting than staring at a huge goal and wondering what on earth you will do to achieve it. Kids are no different. They often struggle to stay focused when faced with a difficult task.
Are we really that different now as adults? When the end seems far off and you have set a goal that is too difficult for them to achieve, they will use their attention as a way of escaping.
Teach your child how to divide large tasks into smaller ones that are more manageable. By defining the goal of their mini-task, you can improve their focus. You’re giving them more confidence to complete the task and decreasing the amount of time they need to concentrate. Eat the elephant one bite at a moment.
