Strategies for Improving Kids’ Focus

Parents know that kids aren’t supposed to be still. Their attention spans are so short that they spend most of their time moving, playing and learning. To learn, kids must first develop the skills to focus. It may seem impossible to get our children to focus, but it is absolutely possible!

You can use these strategies to help your children eliminate distractions, and build strong concentration muscles.

Children can learn to break down large tasks into smaller ones.

There’s nothing more daunting than trying to achieve a huge goal. Kids are no different. They often struggle to stay focused when faced with a difficult task.

Are we really that different now as adults? When the goal is too difficult to achieve and the task appears impossible, they will use distraction as a way of escaping.

Teach your child how to divide large tasks into smaller ones that are more manageable. By defining the goal of their mini-task, you can improve their focus. You’re giving them more confidence to complete the task and decreasing the amount of time they need to concentrate. Eat the elephant one bite at a time.
