Hello and welcome to another Munchkin Meals. Kaitlyn, who is 10 months old, eats every meal. Kaitlyn eats small portions of the family meal since we do baby led weaning. It works well most of the time, but I sometimes need help putting together a meal if what we’re eating is not appropriate or if I’m out of food. When I need help, I look to my freezer!
Freezer items can be a great option because they’re frozen at their peak freshness and don’t have the excess sodium that canned food can contain. They can also save you money over fresh alternatives, especially if your preference is to buy organic.
Here are some of my favorites:
Frozen fruit! These are still frozen. The blueberries and cherries I leave whole or half (these are small ones). I have also used pineapple, mango and peaches from the frozen section. She loves them because I cut the pieces into the right sizes.
Frozen veggies! Frozen peas are always in my freezer. When I want to keep my daughter occupied, I toss frozen peas onto her tray instead of Puffs. The peas are given to her frozen. (Hailey also prefers it this way). It’s also great to keep frozen broccoli, as it heats up quickly. In a small saucepan, I put a few florets into a boiling inch of water and let them sit for a couple minutes. Also, I like to keep frozen carrots shredded, frozen edamame, and frozen peppers.
Meal makers are great! Sometimes I need help with the main part of the meal. These frozen raviolis are perfect for this. They boil in just 8 minutes. They are easy to prepare. I simply slice them and drizzle a little oil on them. Viola! Dinner is ready.
