This month, for Munchkin Meals I want to show you some of the first foods that babies may like if you are starting your baby-led weaning journey.
We started our solids journey a few days before Kaitlyn’s 6 month birthday. Kaitlyn ate roasted sweet potatoes sticks, just like Hailey. I don’t know how much of it made it into her stomach.
After a few weeks, she was able to taste, feel and experience more food. It became fun to watch. When your baby begins to eat on her own more, you can start cooking or cleaning the house. ).

Baby Led First Food Ideas
1. Steamed Broccoli.
It’s so easy to prepare. You can steam broccoli (and then let it cool down) to make it ready. Kaitlyn enjoys the texture of the broccoli’s ‘tree end’.
2. Roasted Sweet Potato Rounds.
These are always a hit. The slices are tossed with olive oil and then roasted, before cooling. I store these in the refrigerator and warm them a little before giving them Kaitlyn. She ate three of them by herself last night, spitting the peel out.
3. Steamed Green Beans.
Kaitlyn is able to grab the food easily and have plenty sticking out from the other end.
4. Banana.
Kaitlyn can pick up the banana easier if you cut it to just expose a small portion. After she finishes the exposed end of the banana, I continue to cut it down a bit more and let her go.
5. Butternut Squash.
This sweet vegetable is easy to eat when roasted into sticks.
