Early Saturday morning, my brother’s crew was up and ready to leave from our Bar Harbor Vacation. Mom, David and the girls walked with me to Cafe This Way in the vicinity of the check-out area. We then finished our small checklist.
We were driving for about 6.5 hours, but we decided to stop and grab a bite in Portland. Portland, from what we saw, is a vibrant little city with a waterfront, many food options, and lots of shops.
One lunch spot rose above the rest after crowdsourcing – duckFat. We waited for an hour on a sunny Saturday midday. Then we wandered around and came back hungry when the time was right to sit down. You were right, DuckFat is SO good.
Mom and I both declared that it was the best clam soup of our trip, with the potato chunks and the bacon sprinkle. The Rueben, the creamy milkshakes, and the delicious gelato were all great, but we need to take a break for the fries. The fries were delicious with the dipping sauces. We immediately ordered more. The duck fat fries were the most delicious I’ve ever eaten.
Our final destination was an upstairs apartment in a historic house located in Warren, RI. We looked into adding Newport to our itinerary a few months ago and the rates were outrageous. We thought staying outside of the town would be a good idea, and it worked out well for us.
