We reached Boston after 2 hours of driving north from New Haven. I only visited Boston once – for a girls’ trip 10 years ago to see my college friends (recaps Part 1, and Part 2). Though I’m not a big city girl, my family and I were excited to explore the historic city.
Our hotel was the Westin Copley Square, located in Back Bay. Alexis, a friend of mine, highly recommended this hotel. It was the perfect place to stay during our two-night stay, from the location and amenities to the view.
We dropped our bags and headed out to explore the town. We decided to have lunch first, as we had only consumed coffee so far. Tatte Bakery was recommended to us. My kids didn’t like the bright, airy atmosphere of Tatte Bakery. I was eager to try all the items on their menu. The kids loved the tomato soup with grilled cheese, and David and me shared the lamb platter (deliciously spiced) and the turkey and avocado sandwich. Very good!
JP Licks was a great place to treat ourselves for ice cream. We only had a little time before our Duck Tour, so we went there and got some delicious ice-cream. I had an Espresso Frappuccino, and it was delicious!
Our Duck Tour launched in Copley Square on time. We were excited to see the city from an open-air vehicle, which splashes into the Charles River after leaving the land. I’d done the duck tour a decade earlier, and was still as excited. It’s hard to find anything I enjoy more than a sunny day spent taking in the sights and learning about the history of the city. The 80-minute drive around Boston was a great experience for us all. And the kids got to drive a duck down the Charles River. It was a great memory.
