A Story from Parenthood

We have late nights on Mondays because the kids are busy with activities and don’t go to bed until 9:15/9:30. I know that Tuesdays are going to be more difficult. Hailey’s alarm clock was set to 7:45, but I let her move it back an hour. As soon as it rang, I heard Hailey stumble out of her bed and make her way downstairs to the couch. Sweet, tired baby.

Kaitlyn wouldn’t move so I opened her front door. In my usual style, I started playing music, called her, let her dog bark, and so on. The girl wouldn’t get up. At 9:00, I finally got serious. She eventually relented and tried to descend to the couch in blankets, but I directed to her the table, where breakfast was ready. Then I saw a complete breakdown. She screamed and cried out in frustration. I thought it was a bit extreme. Strange.

Kaitlyn was unable to concentrate on reading while they were eating. She went to the couch when I asked her. She was asleep again minutes later. It seemed odd, I thought.

Kaitlyn was still there, so I went back and checked on her. I began to worry, as I felt her forehead each time I passed. The temperature was not warm so it was a positive sign even though she continued to snooze.

Hailey’s OSMO was set up (currently Prime Day is 47% off ). It’s only on Kaitlyn’s iPad. But it wasn’t stored in the usual drawer for iPads in the kitchen. Hmm.

Hailey suggested that we look in Kaitlyn’s room when we couldn’t locate it. It couldn’t be, they’re not allowed to keep them in their bedrooms, but I obliged.

We were shocked to find Kaitlyn’s iPad, open with Disney+ and earphones connected, on her bed. A portable charger was also attached. It all made sense to me. She’s exhausted from sneaking iPad films all night!
