Sweet summertime. We are still in summer despite the pictures of back to school that have been flooding Facebook. By this time, I usually have visions of college sports and chili dancing in my head. But this summer was really nice and I don’t want it to end.
We’ve been busying ourselves all day with all kinds of fun activities. Then there is summer food. Is it possible to get better? It doesn’t get any better! Fresh produce from the market, grilling dinners, and desserts on the porch just before sundown.
Fresh peaches remind me of the farm or house that my Nannie had in Georgia. We would visit the orchards and take trips there every time we visited. The peaches were the sweetest and juiciest. They also had homemade peach-flavored ice cream.
We would always bring home a lot of peaches to enjoy. Cobbler was one of my favorite peach recipes. It’s still my favorite. It’s easy to make, and it tastes great. My mom got her cobbler recipe from her mother. The combination of a crumbly topping on warm peaches and vanilla ice-cream beside it rivals that of chocolate and peanut butter.
My freezer is full of Mayfield Creamery Ice Cream thanks to a recent BOGO deal at my local Publix. But for peach cobbler it’s hard to beat the classic vanilla.
