It’s great that you don’t mind if I fill this week with holiday recaps. It was a great adventure, and I have received many questions about how to plan a trip of this nature, including the boat, food, etc. Here it is…
David had a 28-foot monohaul sailboat a few year ago. He got the boat bug. We didn’t want to take on the 44′ catamaran alone, as David is a seasoned sailor, and I am a novice. We decided to check out crewed sailing charters. These include a chef and a captain.
There are a few companies that offer crewed options. These include Festiva The Moorings, and Sunsail. These companies were on display at the Annapolis Boat Show in 2014. Festiva was the least expensive of all those we looked at.
Charter boats (usually 45′-44′ Lagoons or 44′-45″ Lagoons), can accommodate 3-4 couples. Many companies will require that you assemble your group. The two other couples we were looking for would not commit to the trip, so we decided to rent a cabin on the boat. We would then roll the dice to see who the other couple was. We are pretty laid back people, so we didn’t stress out too much about it.
There are four bedrooms on board, each with its own bathroom.
I’m surprised I didn’t take a picture of the bathroom. It’s about the same size as an airplane bathroom but it’s clean. What are the nitty-gritty details? The toilet paper is not allowed in the toilet so it’s placed in a wastebasket, which they empty every day. The’shower,’ which is the sink faucet you pull out and hang from the ceiling, is actually the sink faucet.
Ladies, you don’t need to bring your hair straightener or dryer. It’s best to let your hair air dry. On the entire trip, I only wore makeup 2 nights. It’s an excellent way to reconnect with living au-natural.
The salon was a nice size, but we spent very little time there because the weather was so good.
