Yesterday was lovely. Do not confuse this with perfection. There were some squabbles that needed to be broken up, a lot chaos with the basketball volunteers (David now coaches both Kaitlyn & Hailey), as well as a late meal (not my favorite). Overall, I thought the day was a near-perfect homeschool day.
Finley was at my feet as I began my morning blogging time. David worked from home yesterday, so he came along to the Sniffari. This workout top is awesome by the way. It has thumb holes and a smooth fit. The reviews say it’s a Lulu copy, but I have no idea for what. I ordered it in both red and black.
I made breakfast for the kids and woke them up around 8 am. The adults had a sweet potato, onion and kale salad with fried egg for breakfast, while the children had a bagel, an orange, and an egg. They practiced math while I was cooking (hooray, math dice).
I asked them to put their peels into a pot, so that I could smell the house. There are many variations to this, but water, orange peels and a few cinnamon sticks with some whole cloves can make your home smell as cozy as possible. I think a cozy home makes any day of homeschooling a lot more fun.
While the children were getting dressed and brushing their teeth, I was cleaning and setting up for lessons. After finishing our Farming and Food Gather Round Unit, we switched to another curriculum ( curriculum and structure I am trying this year details are here). Hailey could do Fix It Grammar and IEW on her own. I spent the hour working with Kaitlyn to work on language arts. She was really into it. To make it fun, she read out each word and then acted it out. Our lesson was filled with laughter and silliness. The best.
